Grant Description

Award to a USA active police officer to honor efforts on behalf of the safety and welfare of police canines in local communities. The award program recognizes the efforts of police officers and police dispatchers in advocating for a better quality of life and higher standards of safety for police canines and canines in the community, reuniting lost dogs, and promoting nonviolent resolutions to animal complaints.

The recipient can choose to direct the award toward the respective agency's K-9 program for maintenance, safety equipment, or officer training, or they can direct the award toward a nonprofit animal welfare organization operating within the community.

Additional Criteria for Eligibility

The nominee must be a sworn and active American Police Officer or dispatcher working to promote canine safety awareness and community kinship throughout their neighborhoods. The officer or dispatcher must be employed at a law enforcement agency within the ﬁfty United States or the District of Columbia. It is strongly preferred that the nominated officer or dispatcher be working with an IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization willing to accept funding on the department’s behalf. Nominees do not have to be a canine handler.

Self-nominations are acceptable.
