Grants of $50,000 per year to USA early-career scholars affiliated with a nonprofit institution for research studies related to respiratory diseases. Funding is intended for innovative projects that help detect, prevent, and treat lung disease. The goal of the grant program is to encourage the next generation of scientists who are on their way to independence by supporting mentored investigators who are conducting basic science, behavioral, clinical, or translational research into lung health.
The Catalyst is a mentored award meant to support outstanding investigators on the path to independence for research into mechanisms of lung disease and general lung biology. Preference is given to projects that are novel; innovative in design and approach; utilize modern technologies; and incorporate a multidisciplinary collaborative training plan.
No more than 75% of the requested budget may be used for an awardee’s salary and/or fringe benefits and no more than 30% of the total award budget may be used to fund the purchase of permanent equipment.
Estimated Size of Grant:
Up to two years. The second year of support is based on demonstrating satisfactory progress.
