Immersive Soft Skills Education Grant

Grant Description

In-kind support to USA, Canada, and eligible International universities to facilitate immersive learning experiences. Funding is intended to improve students' and staff's soft skills development. Eligible universities will receive headsets, software, and onboarding support. Priority will be given to institutions that serve underserved learners. Universities and colleges located in the U.S., UK, Canada, Ireland, France, and Belgium are eligible to apply.

Immersive learning is proving to have a significant impact on soft skills for both students and staff, allowing institutions around the world to level the playing field and boost opportunities for their students in the competitive global market. Bodyswaps is committed to improving learning performance and believe the best way to achieve this is to make the technology widely accessible. Through Meta Immersive Learning, Meta is helping to transform the way people learn and increase access to learning through technology.

All applicants will be given full consideration. However, institutions demonstrating the following are more likely to be successful:

  • Institutions that serve underserved learners, especially those that have identified employability and communication skills as key challenges
  • Applicants who have buy-in from institutional leadership
  • Institutions that have defined plans to leverage immersive learning as a core component of their pedagogical approach
  • Institutions with educators that have the capacity to facilitate VR learning sessions with 200+ students over the course of the grant (3 months)

Benefits:

  • Headset details
    • The headset package includes: two Meta Quest 2 headsets, charging cables, touch controllers, AA batteries, power adapters, and glasses spacers. All successful applicants will be able to keep the headsets after the pilot program is complete.
  • Software details
    • Successful applicants will receive 3-month unlimited access to the entire Bodyswaps Library of soft skills training simulations to enable their students to experience realistic workplace scenarios and learn by observing their own behaviour.
  • Onboarding and support
    • Bodyswaps will support institutions with live onboarding clinics, regular check-in and deployment resources. Throughout the pilot programme you’ll have a team dedicated to helping you and your students achieve your learning outcomes.

Eligibility:

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The program is open to universities and colleges located in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, France, Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.

All applicants will be considered, however, institutions serving learners from underserved communities will be prioritized.

Pre-Application Information:

Entries for application are open from 16th November 2022 - 20th December 2022.

Applicants will be notified of their application status on 6th January 2023.

Grant recipients are expected to receive headsets in January, and will be supported through an onboarding process from January to April 2023.

Once the application period closes, 100 tertiary education institutions will be selected to pilot the use of immersive learning to support soft skills training for their students.

Research & Communication requirements:
Bodyswaps will require institutions to capture anonymised data from students and educators for research purposes and reserves the right to communicate about the institutions’ acceptance into the programme.

Although the headsets, software licence and support are included in the grant, Bodyswaps asks applicants to contribute to the setup and shipping logistics with a nominal fee of $250 / £200.

Estimated Size of Grant:

The selected institutions will each receive two Meta Quest 2 headsets and 3-months free access to Bodyswaps VR learning programs that includes dedicated onboarding and support.
