Grant Description

Grants to USA swim lesson providers to offer free or low-cost swimming programs to youth from underserved backgrounds. Applicants must be preapproved as a provider prior to applying. The purpose of the program is to expand existing programming to reach underserved and underrepresented youth up to age 19, who would otherwise not have access to swim instruction.

The USA Swimming Foundation aims to provide the opportunity for every child in the U.S. to learn to swim. Through an annual grant program and by partnering with swim lesson providers and water safety advocates across the country, we help to support swimming lessons, and educate children and their families on the importance of learning how to swim.

USA Swimming Foundation Youth Learn to Swim Grants are intended to expand existing programming and support opportunities for children who otherwise would not participate in swimming lessons for the purpose of acquiring the life saving skill of swimming. Awarded funds may be used by the swim lesson program to offer free or reduced-cost swimming lessons and/or support transportation to/from the swim lesson location(s).

Additional Criteria for Eligibility

Eligibility Requirements:
1. Program must apply and be an approved Swim Lesson Provider within the new USA Swimming SWIMS “Pre-Competitive” database prior to December 1, 2022; pending final testing, the PreCompetitive database is scheduled to launch October 3, 2022
2. Program must adhere to the Network requirements as listed on the USA Swimming website at https://www.usaswimming.org/coaches-leaders/team-leaders/learn-to-swim-grants
3. Program must have a valid Federal Tax ID Number/Employer Identification Number(EIN)
4. Program must have and maintain throughout the grant calendar year, a current insurance certificate naming the USA Swimming Foundation as an additional insured or be self-insured, with proof of current insurance on record
5. Program must be willing to sign a Grant Letter of Agreement, which includes an Indemnification clause, outlining the details of the program’s proposed service and the requirements of both parties by June 1, 2023
6. Program and grant recipient must include the USA Swimming Foundation logo directing to usaswimming.org/foundation on their website.

USA Swimming Foundation YLTS funds are not intended to provide budget relief, support facility overhead, construction or renovation, aid in the purchase of material goods (including equipment, apparel, etc.), or be used for advertising, promotional, or marketing purposes. Requests for any funding categories other than those listed in the bullets above will immediately be deemed ineligible.

The USA Swimming Foundation will not accept:
• Applications requesting funds for re-granting or gifting purposes
• Applications submitted on behalf of an organization by individuals who are not directly affiliated with or contracted by the organization
• Applications which request funding for a program or service that does not meet the minimum requirements of the Swim Lesson Provider Network as outlined on the Swim Lesson Provider Network Requirements document or intends to provide scholarships for children with no documented need

• December 1, 2022: Interested YLTS Grant Applicants must have met Eligibility Requirement #1
• December 15, 2022: 2023 LTS Grant applications due by 11:59pm Mountain Time
• February 2023: 2023 Learn to Swim Grant recipients announced (exact date TBD)
• December 15, 2023: 2023 Learn to Swim End of Year Grant Report due from recipients
